Aged Care Facilities

Bass Coast Health has two Aged Care facilities.  Kirrak House, located in Wonthaggi adjacent to the Wonthaggi hospital and Griffiths Point Lodge, situated in San Remo overlooking Cape Woolamai.  Both of our residential aged care services are accredited through the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

 

Our aged care facilities are staffed by a team of skilled staff, dedicated to the care of each individual care recipient. 
The teams are led by the Nurse Unit Manager and comprise of: 

  • Nursing staff – Registered and Enrolled
  • Personal care workers
  • Leisure and Health Staff
  • Cleaning and Catering staff

What are the costs of aged care accommodation?

From 1 July 2014, new pricing came into effect as part of the government Living Longer Living Better reforms.

There are three ways a resident can choose to pay for accommodation:

 

Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)

A maximum refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum amount and is completely refundable.

Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)

A maximum daily accommodation payment (DAP) accrues daily and is paid periodically, for example monthly.

A combination of the above two options

A combination payment includes both a refundable partial lump sum and non-refundable daily payments

Please note:  The current Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (As set by the “Department of Health”) is 5.78%

 

 

Kirrak House

Kirrak House is directly opposite Bass Coast Health (Wonthaggi Hospital) and provides the highest possible residential accommodation and services for 30 care recipients.  There are 22 single rooms and 8 x 2-bed share rooms, all with adjacent en-suites.  A nurse call system is located beside every bed.

 

The large combined lounge/dining room is centrally located for easy movement and access.  The lounge has a large screen television, a piano for community sing alongs and concerts, videos, DVD’s and a radio.  The dining area is bright and airy and has plenty of space to negotiate around the tables.  Sitting areas are located along each of the hallways and at the end of the facility, so people have access to quiet areas to read or entertain visitors.  Our large activities room is well utilised with a scheduled variety of activities held.  Exiting the activities room leads to a paved BBQ area with raised garden beds. The therapy room, located opposite the activities room, accommodates our in-house physiotherapist who administers our pain management program.

 

The facility has large picturesque windows at every external aspect overlooking the gardens.  The secure external garden features an all‑weather rotunda which extends the time people can spend outdoors.

 

Kirrak House employ suitably qualified staff consisting of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, qualified Leisure and Health staff and highly skilled and motivated cleaning and catering staff, ensuring a high standard of care is maintained, including dementia care and palliative care. They are led by an experienced Nurse Unit Manager who oversees and manages the day to day care of each care recipient.

Single room + shared bathroom:  Maximum Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is $420,000.00 or maximum daily payments of $66.51

Shared room + shared bathroom:  Maximum Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is $390,000.00 or maximum daily payments of $61.76

 

Griffiths Point Lodge opposite the beach in San Remo

Griffiths Point Lodge is idyllically set by the beach in San Remo and is home to 29 care recipients.  All 29 single rooms are unique in style and well positioned to take full advantage of either a magnificent view of Bass Strait or a beautifully manicured, landscaped internal courtyard with undercover rotunda.  The dining room is flooded with natural light from the floor to ceiling bay windows, which provides a panoramic view of Phillip Island and allows for great social interaction during mealtimes. The main lounge, with a large screen television, DVD’s, CD’s and radio provides all day tea/coffee making facilities and is a central location well used by all.  The activities room features a bay window framing the breathtaking sea view. A variety of activities are conducted by our leisure and health staff and include many external community groups attending the facility.  A separate lounge provides an area for family and friends to visit, with coffee and tea making facilities.

 

The external focal point of the facility is the internal courtyard, featuring a well-designed, safe area, beautifully manicured gardens, water feature and central pergola with various seating options for outdoor enjoyment.  The walking path is located around the secure boundary of the facility.  Care recipients, families and friends are able to enjoy sitting under mature shade trees and can spend time watching the ever changing seasons and passing wild life.
