Aged Care Facilities

Bass Coast Health has two Aged Care facilities, Kirrak House is located in Wonthaggi adjacent to the Wonthaggi hospital and Griffiths Point Lodge Hostel is situated in San Remo, overlooking Cape Woolamai.  All residential aged care services are accredited through the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency, and Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

Our aged care facilities are staffed by a team of professional skilled staff, dedicated to the care of each individual care recipient.  The teams are led by the Nurse Unit Manager and comprise nursing staff, diversional therapists, cleaning and catering staff.

All staff has a commitment to ensure the recognition of the uniqueness of our individual care recipients.  The care recipient’s self-esteem, privacy and freedom of choice are valued.  Our philosophy is to ensure and enable all care recipients to live their life with dignity and comfort whilst encouraging them to pursue their own concept of a happy, rich and fulfilling life.  We also encourage family support and interaction.

 

What are the costs of aged care accommodation?

From 1 July 2014, new pricing came into effect as part of the government Living Longer Living Better reforms.

There are three ways a resident can choose to pay for accommodation:

 

 Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)

A maximum refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) paid as a lump sum amount and is completely refundable.

 Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)

A maximum daily accommodation payment (DAP) accrues daily and is paid periodically, for example monthly.

 A combination of the above two options

A combination payment includes both a refundable partial lump sum and non-refundable daily payments

 Please note:  The current Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (as set by the Department of Health) is 5.96%

 

 

Kirrak House:

Kirrak House is directly opposite Bass Coast Regional Health (Wonthaggi Hospital) and provides the highest possible residential accommodation and services for 30 residents.  There are 22 single rooms and 8 X 2-bed share rooms, all with adjacent en-suites.  A nurse call system is located beside every bed.

 

The large combined lounge/dining room is centrally located for the residents easy access.  The lounge has a large screen television for the resident’s enjoyment, a piano for community sing alongs and concerts, videos, DVD’s and a radio.  The dining area is bright and airy and has plenty of space for the residents to negotiate around the tables.  Sitting areas are located along each of the hallways and at the end of the facility, so the residents have access to quite areas to read or entertain visitors.  Our large activities room is well utilised and scheduled numerous activities are constantly held.  Exiting the activities room leads to a paved bbq area with a purpose built children’s play area and sand pit.

 

The therapy room located opposite the activities room accommodates our in-house physiotherapist who administers our pain management program.

 

Residents all have large picturesque windows at every external aspect of the facility overlooking the gardens.  The secure external garden features an all‑weather rotunda which is utilised and extends the time residents can spend outdoors.

Single room + shared bathroom:  Maximum Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is $420,000.00 or maximum daily payments of $68.58

Shared room + shared bathroom:  Maximum Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is $390,000.00 or maximum daily payments of $63.68

 

Griffiths Point Lodge (opposite the beach in San Remo):

Griffiths Point Lodge is idyllically set on the beach in San Remo and is home to 29 residents.  All 29 single rooms are unique in style and well positioned to take full advantage of either a magnificent view of Bass Strait or a beautifully manicured, landscaped internal courtyard with undercover rotunda for the resident’s enjoyment.  The resident dining room is flooded with natural light from the floor to ceiling bay windows, which give the residents a panoramic view of Phillip Island.  All meals are prepared and cooked on-site by a team of qualified staff, with resident input into the choice of menu.  The main lounge with a large screen television, DVD’s, CD’s and radio provides all day tea/coffee making facilities and is a central location well used by all.  The activities room features a bay window framing the breathtaking sea view and is well utilised.  A variety of activities are conducted by our diversional therapists which include many external community groups attending the facility.  A separate area with computers is set aside for resident’s use which allows communication between family and friends via email and skype.

 

The external focal point of the facility is the internal courtyard, featuring a well-designed, safe area, beautifully manicured gardens, water feature and central pergola with various seating options for the resident’s outdoor enjoyment.  The resident walking path is located around the secure boundary of the facility.  Residents can enjoy siting under mature shade trees and can spend time watching the ever changing passing wild life.
