The purchase of a ventilator and a non-invasive humidifier is helping to improve care for people presenting with breathing difficulties to the Emergency Department at West Gippsland Hospital.
The machines were purchased from donations made during last year’s Annual Charity Raffle and Golf Day event at the Warragul Country Club which raised $20,000 for the hospital and $5,000 for the Warragul District & Specialist School.

Members of the fundraising committee have just launched this year’s Annual Charity Raffle and Golf day event with raffle tickets on sale in the community.

WGHG Director of Emergency Department, Gary Campain, said the support from the volunteer committee by providing this donation made a big difference to the delivery of care.

“The hospital is also purchasing an electric power-lift bariatric wheelchair which will improve transport and manoeuvrability of heavier patients.”

Warragul Country Club fundraising committee member, Heather Steenholdt said the group was aiming to raise further funds to support the Hospital and Specialist School through this year’s fundraising event.

“Our 5th annual Charity Raffle is up and running with volunteers staffing stands at Coles in Warragul and the Kiosk in Palmerston Street selling raffle tickets one day each week.”

“A range of local businesses have donated goods and services for the raffle and the Charity Golf day auction which is a big fundraiser of the event held on March 29.”

The annual Charity fundraiser is a partnership between Bendigo Bank community bank branches of Drouin, Trafalgar and Neerim and the Warragul branch and the Warragul Country Club fundraising committee.

Last year’s Charity Golf Day attracted 30 teams of golfers and included professionals teeing off for longest drive and for nearest the pin on one of the par 3s upon receipt of donations.

The event has raised $93,000 for the community since it began four years ago.
